FA [Recruiting Players]

By Paul Preston

The FA has produced various assets to help promote and recruit players into 11-a-side football.

The FA hope to help stem the decline of the adult 11-a-side game, which has seen the number of teams reduce by 21% since 2008/09 season.

Dermot Collins, who leads on this work for The FA, gave some background: "As an organisation we look after 90,000 teams of which nearly 25,000 are adult male teams. Over the last decade however this format has declined as changing lifestyles, poor facilities and a drop in the number of youth players progressing into the open age game has had an impact.

"Therefore, for the first time, we have launched an 11-a-side specific Facebook advertising campaign to reach 2.3m lapsed players with the purpose of getting them back into the game by directing them towards the ‘Play Football’ search function on TheFA.com. Here they are able to search for their local 11-a-side team and get involved.

"We are also keen to assist adult clubs and leagues. At the start of a new grassroots season, we have offered resources to help clubs to recruit new players, which include editable posters and social media assets. Additionally, there’s a fitness programme, nutrition guidance for players in the form of ‘Eat Like England’ and a photo gallery celebrating the traditions of the grassroots game.

"These resources are a great way for us to assist clubs and leagues at the start of a new season by recruiting more players and promoting a positive environment For All."

Assets available for download (below) by clubs and leagues include various posters and images to accompany posts on social media.
