FA [Pre-Season Fitness Guide]

By Paul Preston

The FA has produced a 6-week pre-season training guide intended for use by grassroots level footballers.

The guide (found below) is split into various sections based upon your level of fitness, time availability and position.

Whether you are new to this type of training or have a good training history, this guide will provide you with the knowledge and the confirmation that you are training correctly to make improvements to your performance.

The following sections will cover key terms, an overview of the programme, baseline testing and finally the programme itself.
Following this, there are diagrams explaining the exercises and drills.

At the end of the guide you will find blank session templates to write down your exercise choices, weights and completed repetitions and sets.

All of the information provided within the guide is underpinned by current research to give you confidence that you are working from the most up to date evidence available.

Finally, if you have any health considerations, it is important to consult a qualified practitioner before commencing the programme.
